This year’s flower sale concluded with a first-ever Flower Sale Celebration on May 12. Members of the Bloomington Garden Club, the Bloomington Fire and Police Departments, and other community members joined us at Girls Inc. for a celebration of spring.
The sale raised in excess of $12,000 for Girls Inc. summer camp scholarships. Girls Inc. offers reduced registration fees to families based on household income. Several families were able to take advantage of the discounted registration fees due to the generosity of flower sale donors.
In addition to raising money for scholarships, the Flower Sale Celebration gave us a chance to show off our center, gym, and some of the programs the girls have worked on this spring. Our Girls Inc. Skateboarders were available to demonstrate their moves and encourage grown ups to give it a try. Program staff were on hand to share information about camp, after-school activities, and during-school programs.
The eight-week camp will welcome girls from Monroe, Owen, and Greene counties this year for a summer of fun and learning. This year we will focus on science, technology, engineering, and math activities each day. The girls will also go to the pool and on field trips each week.
