Girls Inc. of Monroe County was awarded a grant from the Duke Energy Foundation to provide scholarships for summer camp registrations. The weeklong camps for girls ages 6 to 14 focus on the Girls Inc. mission of empowering strong, smart, and bold girls.
The Girls Inc. summer camps are designed to inspire girls by challenging them mentally, enhancing their physical ability, promoting creativity, and encouraging them to take risks. Each week of camp will include themed activities with an emphasis on science, technology, engineering, and math. Field trips and swimming are also part of each week’s activities.
“The Duke Energy Foundation is, once again, pleased to support Girls Inc. of Monroe County with a grant,” said Bruce Calloway, government and community relations manager for Duke Energy. “The summer camp is a wonderful opportunity for girls to experience STEM activities in an encouraging environment.”
“It is important that girls have an opportunity to enjoy an enriching summer camp experience. This grant from Duke Energy Foundation allows Girls Inc. to open camp to many girls who might not have been able to attend,” says Girls Inc. Executive Director Amy Stark. “We’re incredibly grateful for this support.”
